National Convention Centre

The construction of the National Convention Centre was a key element in the urban regeneration project by the Spencer Dock Development Company involving substantial demolition and site clearance at the former C.I.E. terminal building and campshires on North Wall Quay. Extensive basement excavations were carried out to service both the new Price Waterhouse Headquarters block and the National Convention Centre. This involved the management and removal of 150,000 cubic meters of materials. Included in these excavations was the management and removal of a large volume of hazardous material that was removed and disposed of at licensed outlets in Ireland and abroad. An extensive pumping and dewatering system was set up during basement excavation which extended to 14m deep in this tidal site.
